This Our
Lady of Hungary Scholarship Fund Report p rovides
the amount distributed to students for the school year
2006-2007 as well as amounts provided in previous years.
This report also explains the history of the fund, reasons
it was started and, who serves on the committee.
In 1993 Our Lady of
Hungary was faced with serious financial conditions and
a decrease in school enrollment. An advisory committee
was set up to consider a merge with another parish or
increase the number of students attending our school.
This committee was set up at the direction of the pastor
to look into these problems and identify the alternatives
to consider. The final report was given to the parish
members on the decisions made in 1993. The report was
sent through the pastor to the bishop.
One of the outstanding
themes that the committee kept returning to was that
this parish wanted its own identity as the report showed.
Thus several actions were formulated as follows: |
|
1. Increase
awareness of Our Lady of Hungary in the local area “marketing” our
school.
2. Increase tuition
in small increments, maintaining our attractiveness to
all local citizens.
3. Increase voluntary
and financial support by all parish members through a
scholarship fund to support educational excellence in
grades 5 and 6 where we found a large number of students
transferring to public schools after receiving Confirmation.
This would also enhance a more cohesive parish family.
4. Maintain the religious
environment and sound educational principles Our Lady
of Hungary School has always provided for our community.
|
The first
two recommendations had already been initiated. But now
our efforts were to focus on increasing the financial support
by all parish members through the introduction of a tuition
scholarship as outlined below.
|
|
To establish a mechanism
of supporting scholastic excellence.
|
|
|
Parish Pastor School
Principal, Five (5) Members of the scholarship supporters*
|
|
|
1. To support students
who maintained scholastic excellence during the fifth and
sixth grade levels.
2. Funds will be applied
to the student’s tuition the year following achieving
scholastic excellence.
3. Funds can only
be used for Our Lady of Hungary School tuition
|
|
|
1. Provide up to eight
(80) percent of the following year’s tuition to all
fifth and sixth grade students who maintained an “A” average.
2. Provide up to forty
(40) percent to the following year’s tuition to
all fifth and sixth grade students who maintained a “B” average.
Note: The student base was later changed to include fifth, sixth
and seventh grade students and applied to their sixth, seventh and eight
grade year.
