Eco-Christianity
Doing our part. . .
A few of JWJ's recent meetings focused on "Eco-Christianity," a movement that continues to garner quite a bit of attention among many denominations of Christianity, including Catholicism. Pope Benedict XVI recently called for Catholics to be better stewards of all God's creation, including the environment.
To that end, Jammin' with Jesus has been out and about tending to the often overlooked beautiful natural things that surround us. For two weeks in May '08, we visited Rum Village woods to assist the park rangers with trash pickup. We also helped pull garlic mustard from the hiking trails. (Garlic mustard can be a very invasive plant that could overtake other flora in the woods if left to grow wild). And we took seriously Jesus' advice to feed the hungry and minister to outcasts we shared some of our Taco Bell burritos with a friendly critter of the forest. (Don't worry; the kids watched Heather, the animal loving group leader, feed the raccoon; no teenagers were endangered by a potentially rabid animal)!
